They're both bigger, ambitious titles that are trying to gun for that mass audience CoD demographic by changing their core formulas substantially. RE5 and RE6 have human enemies with guns (RE5 only at the end), RE6 adds a semi-cover system. Resident Evil 6 was roughly contemporaneous with Dead Space 3 and both were disasters - although RE6 actually sold fairly strongly it was just brutalized by critics and audience scores. Resident Evil 5 proved you could do it and have a smash hit on your hands. The idea of a coop horror action game wasn't implicitly wrong. And then they tried to go bigger again with Dead Space 3 and they screwed the pooch. and they sold more copies but it was on a higher budget so they weren't really in a good place still. Love the game such a good story and i love making my own guns and being able to. And so they went bigger with Dead Space 2. Buy Dead Space 3 by Electronic Arts at GameStop. Their basic choice was - go big or go home. They wanted big hits, not games that made small amounts of money off large investments. The series was in a death spiral from the beginning, because it was such an expensive studio location and the profits were never quite enough to be sustainable overall from EA's perspective. The ship graveyard is legitimately cool and the ice planet is a good setting too.
